Inside:
accommodation at Demetra is all over one floor. The main entrance
takes one into a generously proportioned living area, which features two
separate seating areas, one gathered round a large fireplace and TV, the other
looking out over the gardens, and a study. Banks of glass sliding doors take one
out to the terrace that runs all round the house.
On either side of the fireplace, the living area flows into the dining area and
from there into a large L-shaped contemporary kitchen with breakfast bar and
top-spec appliances. More sliding glass doors from between the dining area and
the kitchen lead out to a large covered al fresco dining area.
The sleeping quarters are accessed via a corridor from the living area (where
there is also a guest bathroom) and comprise six bedrooms, four doubles and
two double-twins, each with its own en-suite shower room. The main bedroom
also has an in-bedroom free-standing bath.

Outside:
the gardens at Demetra are essentially on two levels. The upper level
is accessed directly from the numerous glass sliding doors in the living and
dining arear. One of these leads out onto a panoramic lawned terrace with
seating area and steps leading down to the gorgeous pool, which features a
beach-effect shallow end and a hydromassage corner. There is plenty of space
around the pool for sunbathing or reclining in the shade. On this level there is
also an open air shower and a separate bathroom complete with shower.
From one edge of the pool a driveway sweeps through the gardens and around
the house. Back on the upper level of the terrace, and accessed from the
indoor dining area and kitchen is a covered area furnished for convivial dining
and equipped with an outside kitchen and barbecue which are surrounded by
an aromatic herb garden.
On the opposite side of the house to this is a large expanse of lawn, flanked by
flowering Mediterranean shrubs and trees. Sitting areas dot the gardens,
making it possible for each guest to find their own space when in search of a bit of
me-time. Views pan out over the surrounding countryside and hills of Scopello.

Features & Amenities

Surroundings

Situated in the northwest of Sicily, Demetra is well-place for discovering the wealth of attractions that the area has to offer. The charming hamlet of Scopello, with its authentic old baglio, has a couple of good restaurants, a few bars, a scuba diving club, and a smattering of shops, including a superb delicatessen, wine shop and greengrocers just below. The extremely evocative setting of Scopello’s old tuna plant is a great spot for swimming and snorkelling, as are the nearby pebble beach and lidos of Guidaloca. This latter is walkable (2.5km) from Demetra, but there are no footpaths on the roads. Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve is a 15-minute drive away and offers a range of spectacular walks and some beautiful crystal clear bays for swimming. The nearby town of Castellammare del Golfo has a good selection of seafront bars and restaurants, a daily fish market, plenty of shops and a long sandy beach with lidos. The spectacular Elymian/Greek site of Segesta is about 20 minutes drive away and Erice, Palermo, Trapani and Selinunte can all be reached in under an hour.

A beautiful villa. Spacious, modern, tastefully designed and furnished. All the equipment we could have wanted was there and everything worked. Lovely pool. Lots of spaces designed to sit and chat, dine outside, or read, or snooze. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The daily maid service and the cook who came in and cooked for us some nights were excellent. The owner looked in regularly and was very helpful in arranging meals and excursions. The location is easily reached within an hour from Palermo airport. The nearby village of Scopello and the town of Castellamare del Golfo were terrific places to visit. Our group of 12 had a wonderful time and we would love to come back to Demetra.
