Guided tours in Sicily

Sicily: a land of extremes, an essence of history, architecture and gastronomic delights. Over 2.500 years as a strategic crossroads of western world have left Sicily with an unparalled historical legacy. Whether you are more attracted by Greek temples, Roman villas and aqueducts, Normal cathedrals or Baroque churches, Sicily offers a range of historical sites. Expect to be surprised, enchanted to come away wanting more. This is what Sicily does best.

Palermo, the capital of Sicily, a beautiful, laid-back, and endlessly engrossing city. Take a walking- and food tour in order to see some of its best highlights: Palermo’s Cathedral, Massimo Theatre, Quattro Canti corners, Bellini Fountain while exploring historical landmarks, markets and cuisine tasting a sweety cannolo or an arancina. Cefalù. In this magnificent seaside town you won’t regret taking your days in Sicily to enjoy this beautiful place. Climb to the top of La Rocca for stunning views over the city and the Mediterranean Sea and check out the Cathedral: dating back even further than Palermo’s Cathedral, it is absolutely worth your trip.

West of Palermo, lovely Castellammare del Golfo and its little ancient village Scopello are two of the most beautiful must-visit places in Sicily. Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve, created in 1981, has been shaped by nature to stunning effect. Cliffs drop precipitously into the azure sea with a series of delightful pebbly bays with transparent turquoise water. A good idea is to stop off in Scopello and fill a bag with “pane cunzato”.

Agrigento: The ancient Valley of the Temples outside of Agrigento is undoubtedly one of the best places to visit in Sicily. Once a thriving Ancient Greek city, these ruins are remarkably well-preserved and far less crowded than many better-known Greek ruins throughout Europe.

Packed with ancient ruins, beautiful churches, and a maze of quiet streets, Syracuse and the island of Ortigia, definitely worth a visit. Visit Castello Maniace: located on the far edge of Ortigia, this castle dates back to the 13th century and boasts beautiful views over the Ionian Sea. Stop by Syracuse’s Greek Theatre, one of its most popular attractions.
Sicily’s Val di Noto is designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site for its incredible Baroque architecture in all the eight towns. Val di Noto is littered with stunning Baroque towns, rolling hills, and some of the best chocolate in the world. In other words, it’s definitely a place that belongs on your Sicily itinerary.

On a perfectly clear day, in Taormina you’ll see an epic view of Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea behind the Greek theatre. Go for a swim at Isola Bella or hike the Etna: there’s still nothing like standing on an active volcano with your own feet. Catania: Located in the shadow of Mount Etna, Catania is Sicily’s second-largest city and second international airport hub. The heart of the city is Piazza del Duomo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can admire the Elephant’s Fountain, the city’s emblem. This fountain depicts an elephant carved in black lava, topped by an Egyptian obelisk. Behind the fountain, there is Catania Cathedral, with its exterior in white marble. Villa Bellini, located Via Etnea, is the ideal place to enjoy a bit of freshness and take a rest.

Aeolian Islands, sometimes called the Lipari Islands, are a stunning volcanic island archipelago renowned for some of the most magnificent sea views in all of Sicily. Formed by volcanic eruptions over time, the archipelago is made up of seven islands – Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Panarea, Stromboli, Filicudi and Alicudi – each one with its own identity. They all emerge from an uncontaminated sea, created by still-active volcanoes (Stromboli and Vulcano), and blessed by a savage beauty.

Aegadian Islands. Easily accessible by hydrofoil from Trapani or Marsala, this stunning archipelago is one of the most popular destination in Southern Italy. Resting on the western coast of Sicily, Aegadian Islands have been preserved their authentic charm and natural beauty. Favignana, the biggest island with bright white sand dotted with rocks and turquoise sea, Levanzo and Marettimo with both rocky and sandy beaches perfect for sunbathing and relaxing with terrific sea views.
